can anyone, please, lemme know where I can get a V8 Xmember for my '58 Rambler series 10?!?! gettin held up big time!
Wow good luck there. Try doing a web search for "AMC parts". The stuff is out there. http://www.ramblerparts.com/ You could also make one for yourself if you've got the tools and skills. That may be the fastest way.
What model Rambler are you working on?? I was under impression that series 10 cars in that year only came with the 196.. You putting a V8 into a 58 Rambler Classic or?? check the width of the frame. AMC was very frugal, the same width / same frame may carry into the 60's and a V8 member from 60's or 70's may bolt in. Another Q is what 8 you putting in, Gen 1 or Gen 2???
yeah, 196 in it now. future artificial reef in the Delaware cross the street! '58 Rambler Super 6. 318 Dodge n 727 goin in. WHAT FRAME?! friggin unibody!
Loose reference.. gotta be some frame rails of some kind up front.... I have not played with anything that vintage, but members from later models swap around, they are bolt in. Sub frame width will let ya know what to look for. It could be tough to find one though.. The small car, hornet, gremmie, etc. members are hard to find cheap. the large car members are easier to find, easier being relative as AMC's are typically the first things crushed as they were made of good metal and were not as popular or lucratrive for yards to keep around. You probably want something newer than 65.. this was second Generation engine, probably more equiv to the Mopar motor you are considering.
Me and Singledownloop [Greg],recently put a Mustang II in his 58American...We did however do a lot of fab work to tie the MII crossmember to the original Rambler unibody subrail set.....We narrowed CROSSMEMBER 2" from its original 56" width. It works perfect with 17" by 8" wheels. we also tied the frt and rear unibodys together with a set of 2x3" rails for good measure.....
