OK guys! You got me! I'm just another Willys Lover.. Had a Street Legal AAG '41 Willys Coupe back in the 80's through the early 90's on our West Coast. The car was built from four different all steel cars and verus F/G parts. Never forgot that car after selling it to a fellow in Golden, Co. in about '95 or so. Photos below
Anyway love this Thread, and you guys are all great as most everyone I've ever meet that Eat, Breath, and Sleep Willys seem to be..
    My Regards MAGOO Seattle, Wa.

  4. Magoo, you had fun trying to find front meats for those 16 inchers, somehow I recall something to do with HD. Is my memory still intact?

I remember reading in the old Street Rodder article that those front wheels were 16". I always ***umeed it was just a typo. If those were truly 16's, then I don't think I've seen another set.

Ya, Those magnesium Kidney Slots came off a Sprint car in the early 70's and yes they were 16" x 4.5 We went with a pair of 16" rear Harley tires that were rated to 130mph The weird part was the beads on a Harley tire are only 1/2 - 5/8" and the beeds on a normal tire run about 1"+/- so if this maks any sence to you the "sidewall" not the bead of the H/D tire shouldered up on the inside rims bead... We went close to 170, but never went over that. Not sure they wolud have stayed on. Never had a problem in over a 100 p***es+/- Although I never felt commutable thinking about those tires..

Cool story. Those must be some really rare wheels, and that was one beautiful coupe. Love the shot of it yanking the front wheels coming off the line.

  8. Magooz...I remember your coupe well from the Fremont days. What a beautiful car! I will look and see if I have any pictures of it to add.

    Kiwi Kev,
You must have a great memory.. That's was back in the early 80's at Baylands Raceway in Freemont, Ca. We made a couple of p***es, but didn't get to make a full p*** before the trans gave up. MAGOO PS What a great weekend that was!

    Bogert,
Nice cars. I love your Willys, and like that Henry- J a lot. We're in the middle of a '51 H/J right now.. Thanks for sending your photos.. MAGOO

Kenny, I think we have a movie from Fremont (1986) when your trans let go. As I remember you were racing the orange 41 Willys 4 door that Art Chrisman built. Mike Blower was his name, there is a picture in SRM, Aug 86. You are out on him!

    Hey Kudo,
That chopped coupe looks bad.. I mean bad a??. You were right it has the good roof line.. I do need to say it would be a shame to cut up your all steel coupe in an effort to chop it. O'well it's your call on that one..

    Chris,
The only reason I beat you was because you had so much HP you broke the tires loose. Other wise you would have showed us a few things!! I know how you build engines so I'm not to excited about a match race with your altered wheelbase Comet.. I'm old now.. MAGOO

  17. I found an album with a bunch of good pictures from the NDRA meets at Fremont. It will be a while before I scan them. I will post them on the 37-42 Willys thread.

    Magooz,

Like Kiwi Kev said, we saw your Willys at Fremont and thought it was a very nice car - one of the nicer one's there at the time. We were there when your ****** went south, it was too bad as I wanted to see you make a full p***. I also remember seeing it at Bandimere in '94 when I towed my coupe there from Calif. on a single axle trailer. Remember the wind storm at the track on Saturday night? We had a great time at that meet! Vic

    Vic,
You're another guy with a GREAT memory. Now that you mention that about the wind storm. Yes, and I think that was why it played a big part in why there were so many guys not wanting to put the cars on Kill. Running in the high 8's and low 9's at 160+/- with that wind blowing across the track would have been like racing on ball bearings! Although that storm went away as fast as it came, but who would have knowen..That weekend lead up me Selling the Willys. I almost cried, but we had fun for well over 10yrs with it.. That fellow lives in Golden, Co. and he turned out to be a real friend ever sense. That gentleman made an all steel Street legal Rod out of it. Photo is of it now..
I think I remember your car.. Have a photo of it back then or do you still have it? Thanks for your kind words and thoughts..
