It's a shame that it takes a disaster for civilized people to be civil. Yes, there are some genuinely good people, but for the most part, the average person appears to be after their own interest. In my old neighborhood, people usually kept to themselves or ignored others. But during hurricane Ike, when it flooded, everyone came out to help. I guess I can't really complain, but I'd sure like to see this kind of caring year round.

:D This thread reminds me of what a good friend of my family did after a hurricane.Spent a week using his 650 Holmes wrecker to help clear roads and yards of downed trees at no cost to anyone.
    Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

  3. I live in the Ozark foothills. And there have been a half dozen of those so called 100 year floods in the last couple of decades. There was a record flood this spring. I never had anything to get damaged on our low ground (elevation at 300 ft. What I don't understand is folks rebuilding in the same location time after time. The first time they got flooded I felt bad for them. The second time its all on them. Why keep doing the same failed thing over and over and expecting a different result? If it flooded once it can and likely will flood again.

I lived in a far western suburb of St. Louis in the early nineties and had five hundred year floods two years in a row - ninety two and ninety three.

I wondered the same thing about those rebuilding in the same flood-prone places myself.

When you get over to Cypresswood to check on your place, I hope you find the flooding wasn't as bad as you had thought, choptop40!

The President and our Governor spent most of the day at one of the larger shelters down in Houston today. Helped p*** out food and clothing to folks who had evacuated and welcome folks who were just getting there. Later, the President went to Louisiana to thank the volunteers who came over to Texas to help evacuate folks who were flooded out of their homes both here and there.

Lots of neighbours helping neighbors pull wet carpet, sheet rock, insulation and ruined furnishings and belongings out of their homes and out to the curb in neighbourhoods where the flood waters have receded.

    Best regards,

    Harry

...we feel for all those affected, hard to believe what's going on down there even after seeing it on the news;...
...on the other hand, it's nice to see how some "famous" people
have stepped up to help out those in need; Trump donated a million the other day, as well as DiCaprio, Miley Cyrus gave a half a mil,...and others,..but....Jennifer Lopez is reportedly worth over $320 million, she threw in $25, 000 along with Arod who's worth over $300 mil, who gave the same,...wtf?..if I were her & Arod I wouldn't want that to be known.
...prayers to all affected by this storm.

Got a surprise from Ron, over at Ron Pope Motorsports. Thought it was pretty cool.
