The colors in paint are unlimited and there are a wide range of colors available with powder coat,as far as prep and applying the finish if the price of each were close which finish do you prefer?

The wheels & grille shell on my pickup were painted, mainly because I couldn't get the color I wanted.

But,the wheels & grille insert on my old beater were powder coated cream 20 years ago,and the finish is holding up great.

So,with everything being equal what's your preference? HRP

  2. Myself, I prefer powder coating. Lasts longer and it won’t crack when dented.

Wheels are black, just matches the tires and the black top better.
And they should be on cars, not the living room floor.

HRP, I've always been partial to cream colored wheels on a black car. I think they look great with caps on your 32.

If I'm not mistaken, the original question was paint vs powder-coat and how did it hold up, not choice of color.
Correct me if I'm wrong .
I've just always used paint with no problems, but my cars were never meant to be trophy winners....just fun drivers

  17. Went body color after photoshopping various colors. Tonight I finally added the Beauty rings to break up all the turquoise. Would love a set of dual redlines next! Ring on rear only in pic

Paint over powder coat. Paint can be redone easily if it needs it, failed powder coat is a mess when the rust gets under it.
The wheels on my coupe are now blue, as is the front bumper, but I don't have any updated pictures. Suppose I should take some someday. Gene

Red wheels (PC) to contrast the black car but, match the red seat. Trim rings and caps to dress it up. This combo has always been a favorite.

Red wheels are about as traditional as it gets!

    Ouch!

Never seen powder coat rust when done on car parts,my wheels have 20 years of abuse without failure. HRP

Depends on the color of the car but personally I think Henry got it right with Tacoma Cream. Oh, and paint.

I wouldn't have gone red without the full wheel covers..but I like the red reveal with full wheel covers.

Back in the 70's I did these Buick wires by blasting the chrome off prime and painted with harvest gold refrigerator paint from a spray can. It held up for years. ModelA.jpg
