Thunderrocket, Can you post details of your front disc change over sometime. Us edsel owners need all the help we can get. Thanks I'm glad to see you getting started on the wagon!!!
A-Y8 --- good choice losing the bumper guards and what a difference that made on the car. Does it drive any better for you?
It definately drives better. Part of the reason is the bad ´55 stering box that I changed for a good´60. That really made a difference, but it is a lot more fun to drive now, feels a lot stiffer. The Summit Chevy S10 front shocks could have been a little stiffer though.
The pic is recent - the condition is the same I found her in 1997 - this pic is of last year from my friend who has her now....early production model from 1957 - with the 410 cui but a 2bbl carb - hooded mirror, bumper guards, and electric wipers (stock).
Someone's swapped the intake and carb if it has a two barrel carb. Only a 4 barrel carb was offered from the factory in any Edsel.
The Youngstar was a dealership promotion and Ford had nothing to do with this promotion. The Youngstar is not a pedal car but is an all electric car with forward, reverse and lights that really work. It was produced by the Donaldson Co. in Kansas City ,Kansas. Suggested retail price $432.99 less battery. There approximately ten Dealers that gave them away. The dealers that may have given the Youngstar away were Hills Motors, Pitts Motors, Platt Motors, Beamer Motors, Wright Edsel, Duneland Motors, E.Z. Motors, Jade Mitchel inc., Weaver Edsel Sales, Ray Lewis Motors. The Youngstar That I have was raffled by Hills Motors. Every one that test drove the Edsel was given a raffle ticket and the car was won by a member of the family The same company made this car.
'59 with a 2.3 turbo swap. Read about it here; http://www.curbsideclassic.com/curbside-classics-american/curbside-classic-1959-edsel-eco-boost/
Old thread of a '59 wagon updated recently. Check it out if you missed it...good story. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=254361&highlight=edsel
I just read thath turbo four article. Not a terrible idea but sound as though itszkijda half assed together at this point with no intercooler and mixed electronics. If it was making the numbers some of those guys talk about (350hp/450tq) and was still driveable as a daily it might not be a bad swap. If it runs like shit and makes less power than when it left the factory it's not fair to that poor car. And now for something completely different, I am eyeballing the wagons in this thread HARD lately.
More useless Edsel trivia: Did you know that there were three different Edsels used in the movie "Used Cars"? This movie company used *at least* three different Edsels (probably more) and we can see two of the 1958's here. The first pic is a Ranger four-door sedan...look at the C-pillar treatment: a rear-slanting rear door upper window line with a vertical divider near the aft of the door separating the moving glass from the fixed. The shot below it shows a Pacer four-door hardtop...the C-pillar slants forward at the aft edge of the door, and has the circular Edsel shield emblem which was absent on the 1958 Ranger four-door hardtop, although in most other respects it was identical to Pacer. 1958 Pacers and Rangers were available in the same corresponding body styles with the exceptions of the convertible (Pacer and Citation, but not Ranger or Corsair in 1958) and the Ranger-only two-door sedan (all three model years). '58 Ranger being prepared to zoom across the lot. '58 Pacer zooming across the lot. The car they crashed is obviously a '59 Ranger disguised as a '58 by way of the painted on side scallops.
This'll probably get posted here if I don't do it first. This is from another thread, but this is me trying to start my '59 <iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9ZW5RE7ADrc" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="349" width="425"></iframe>
Lotsa Edsel love in the house tonight. I had a pretty serious trade offer on my a few days ago for a car that I have always loved. Equally as odd-ball and unique but very nice. It took a few days of some serious soul searching to determine if I was gonna keep mine or swap. That ADD part of my brain had full control but everyone I asked (and in a non-bias way) said Edsel. Looks like I am keeping her for a little longer. Maybe. I'm still thinking it over though. Naw, Ill keep it. Maybe.
Here is a few pics of my old Edsel (I miss that car!) img198.imageshack.us/i/18821418733689638981531.jpg/][/URL]

I figured this one was okay since there was an Edsel in it.... these are the cars from my club just cruising around. The trade offer was on the 47 Olds.
