Hello While ordering parts to get my 32 running i had to make a choice for my fuel pump. Is the pump in the picture a sleeve- or rocker arm type of mechanical pump ? Maybe a dumb question but i don't know yet. It's in a France build V-8 with the orginal 32 engine.
The replacement I used with the french flathead was the non gl*** bowl pump. I did replace the tower however with a newer one. In the end I use an electric fuel pump.
This is a stock push rod operated diaphram fuel pump. The pump in the picture is fine, it just needs to have a good cleaning and a rebuild kit. These are hard to get fuel pump bodies unique to 1932 and 33 V8 only and based upon the design could be expensive. The pump pictured by poster ken is the wrong pump it is for a later model year. Rebuild kits for your pump are available so dont get burned buy someone telling you its super rare or the only one in the world.
French built '32 V8? To my knowledge Matford started production in 1934 and earlier V8 Fords were imports.
French bought the rights from Ford in the 50's to make the engines in France for their military vehicles. Production went well past the late 60's. My block was cast in 64. The blocks are similar to the 49-53 in front and early flathead in back (cast bellhousing)
I know - I run a '80s French Flathead in my '37 Ford as well, just doubt they made V8s that early in France BTW: They didn't buy the rights, SIMCA bought Ford France (SAF) completely in 1954.
Read the post. He says it is an original 32 V-8, not the later military engines that are all the rage these days
Without seeing a side view of your pump,it appears to be the early to mid year sleeve style pump. The late pump,Sept `32 to the end of `33, had the rocker arm style pump. Both styles used the vertical push rod.
That's right, it's not a French flathead as we called them based on the 49-53 V-8, but an orginal 1932 V-8 with 21 studs, one barrel carb, alloy sump and only ***embled in France with an American body one NO suicide doors. BTW i removed it and it's an early 'sleeve' type pump. Thanks for the reactions
