Okay I need knowledgeable advice on 1936 Ford Cabriolet convertible windshield frame. The bottom frame section as rust out as a lot of them seem to be. Two questions I have for you. One , is a 1936 Coupe or Sedan bottom section the same as the Cabriolet and are the 1935 Ford Cabriolets, Coupes and Sedans the same as the 1936's ? Something I heard that Roadsters are totally different. Thanks for any help.

  2. The repop ones list a deliffrent part number for cabriolets and sedans.
That doesn’t answer if the bottoms will swap
    So call it a bump

To my knowledge, Coupes and Sedans are the same (35 or '36)-I believe the Cabriolet and the Roadsters may share also-

As for rusting out, I bought 3 Coupe/Sedan Frames (and wanted to chop them 2"to match my Coupe) and they all shared the same problem as yours (major rust on the bottom, some up the side)-

I was frustrated, and purchased a new one through Speedway (they accidentally sent me a Roadster, but quickly exchanged it)-

One thing I will say if you end up going the Speedway route- they offer them chromed or plain-I bought the chromed one and the chrome was terrible-$500.00 spent at the Chrome shop fixed it, but doing it again I'd get it in plain and have it chromed (hope this helps)-I have three used Frames for sale :)

Thanks for the bump and advice. The bottom could be repaired but .... Sometimes I see Coupe and Sedans with relatively decent bottoms, although pics still make it hard to tell. I definitely do not want to spend $ that needs more thrown at it. . Same with buying a "good condition" one. May have to see if anyone's thoughts on Bob Drake repop quality.

  5. If those are hollow the problem with chroming them is the process uses chemicals that stay down inside in the seams, and causes the frame to rot from the inside out.Your better off painting it in the long run.

I believe they rust out because of the design- there was only setting tape used (without any weep holes, sealant or means for water to escape the Frame)-water would simply sit in the bottom of the channel once the setting tape was breached-

Okay. With as many rotted out I figured it was a design flaw.

The Roadster and the Cabriolet are way different. The Cabriolet is pretty much a stand alone frame. The bottom section to the cowl is not the same as regular coupe and sedan closed cars. Cleaning two of the Cabriolet frames up now that aren't rusted. In the process, I compared with the closed car frame over the Cabriolet, way different, top section and the bottom section. Cheers

Cabriolet, convertible sedan, and woody are all interchangeable,
