found this drums on ebay does anyone knows about it? good or bad? never seen before and they look a lot like original https://www.ebay.com/itm/225635479217
Looks like a 40 Ford drum. Won’t fit up to 48 like the seller mistakenly said. I’ve got no idea about the quality though.
How come so much patina on a new reproduction drum? If correct it should fit post war with the correct hub, Ford sold them as an assembly for 40-48. Charlie Stephens
It's probably old reproduction part, that's why patina is present. Never seen those drums as reproduction part.
The guy that wrote that ad is a bit goofy. He calls his drum "one piece", not so, they are cast iron lined steel, and he says the new reproductions are two piece when they are all cast iron one piece that I've seen. It looks like a stock 40 drum to me.
I think they are full steel drums but maybe I'm wrong. In my opinion there is not enough overall thickness to do it that way.
I think pretty much all brake drums except maybe a kids go kart are cast Iron. Not sure if its a heat thing or iron grabs better. I know it cuts like cast iron in my lathe, chips...not curls
Yours is also a 40. The drum mounts on the outside of the hub. If it was gonna mount to the inside of the hub it couldn’t have the lip at the center hole.
i did a different google search and found out they are old KH reproduction now would like to understand if someone have the old Kelsey Hayes part book to understand for which model are made
That drum would be a replacement for use where the hub is mounted inside the hub. Probably a good part if it is a KH replacement drum; likely made in the days before off-shore production. Originally '40-'42 like mentioned; but after all these years these parts can be mixed up and you have to see what you have. I've found outside flange hubs on earlier cars as well as inside mount hubs on '46-'48 cars. Ford only sold hub/drum assemblies so if you go with replacement drums you will have to deal with properly removing the swedged studs and either getting new studs and having them swedged on assembly or converting to pressed in serrated studs and letting the drums slip on.
All I know is that for that price you may as well pick up the boiling bros slip on Lincoln drums, and convert your hubs to slip on configuration with press in studs
