    Hi guys,

So I picked up a 1950 Shoebox in the fall and my first thought was, ok lets do a motor swap(even though it had a good running Flathead 6 cyl. in it.) So I yanked everything out, started plotting and planning, but over the course of time the flathead has grown on me. My only thought was possibly putting "more" modern Automatic in the car.

From doing various searches and reading up on the site it looks like there are alot of similarities between the Flathead 6 cyl. motors and the Flathead V8's as far as trasmission mounting is concered? Guess my question is would the kits availble for mounting a C4 to a V8 also work on the 6? Any body been down this road?

Thanks in advance for any info..

    Dave

Sorry, I can't help at all with your question, but want to congratulate you for your decision to stick with the flathead six.

Oh yeah, you might oughta scoot over and do an intro post, or the HAMB Intro Police will be here shortly to give ya a hard time.

Thanks Retromotors! Yeah, I love the look of the engine. I will probably start with running it stock and keep my eye's open for some period "speed" parts. I know there is not alot out there for these. There is some good reading on here using the search function though, and I have learned quite a bit so far. Just couldn't find someone who mated one to a C4?

try Flat-O-Matic,use a truck bell housing from 6 cyl truck. That should get you from the 6 cyl block pattern to the common 7[?]bolt transmission pattern used on Flat-O-Matics C-4 adapter.Their V-8 flex plate should bolt to the 6 cyl but need to use V-8 starter or at least V-8 starter bendix.
do a google search for ford 6 cyl performance-good web site w/message board section on flathead 6

If going through the trouble, why not use an OD trans and a rear with lower gears? You might as well gain some performance, no?

I can post up some pics of it in current stock form. I will def. be on the lookout for some knudson parts. Thanks for the thumbs up on deciding to stick with the 6. I have had a few friends tell me I am crazy, gonna regret it, not gonna be reliable, blahhhhh..

I have wondered if I should just put the effort into a OD trans. I chose the C4 because I have one and being a bit budget minded. I thought maybe try and get a AOD. Anybody have any other suggestions of something that would be fairly straight forward and affordable? I am open to suggestions.

    Thanks again guys!
