I need some help ID'ing some Y-blocks that I have. I am doing a build to replace the tired 292 in my 60 F-100 and I have these 3 to choose from.
    1) ECK 6015 B
    2) EDB 6015 E
    3) C1AE 6015 R
Is there any real difference once they get back from the machine shop, I mean, can they all be worked the same? I have have been reading up on some past y-block build threads and got some great ideas but haven't found anything on how to id the block. Thanks in advance.

  4. ECK is a '56, EDB '58-'59 snd C1AE is a '61 casting any one of them will work, all good blocks. The C1AE is known to be a little stonger in the bottom end, wouldn't make much of a difference though.

  5. What he said. ^^^^

I would pick the one that will take the least machine work and/or appears to have the least corrosion in the water jackets.

  6. Good point about the water jackets, I have come across a couple of blocks recently that had so much scale in the jackets that when they were bored you would find pin holes in the bottoms of the cylinders, this will not always show up with a sonic test. This is a problem with blocks that have sat a long time with water still in them. Also look for freve cracks along the side up close to the deck. Don't be too frightened, Y-Blocks are a tough engine and rarely show these problems.
