I have a 1952 Ford Pickup with a six and the original 3 speed transmission. My question is when in 2nd gear and I let off the gas the transmission will pop out of gear into neutral. Any body have any ideas of what might be wrong? As long as I keep my hand on the shift lever it stays in gear. Is there an adjustment to this? All of my rubber bushings in the linkages are new in the last year. This problem started in the fall.

    Thanks!

  2. I used to have that problem on a 56 Ford. It turned out that the syncronizer for second gear was worn out. Replaced it and that fixed it. You might have an adjustment with the shift linkage problem. Try to disconnect the shift lever, put the shift arm in gear manually and adjust the lever to fit the arm and see if that is the problem.

Check for worn shifting forks if linkage is adjusted correctly...
