Most items from the 302 and 289 (brackets and add ons) generally swap directly to the 300 6.

And The bell housing is the same so you have your choice of V8 related transmissions whether they be the excellent 3+1 standard o/d or the early automatic overdrive (non metric, 88 or older needs no computers/support)

You may find a lot of needed accessories/stuff under a Grand marquis or Crown Vic hood prior to 88ish.

If you want the quickest engine wiring, grab everything from under the hood of a 75-79 Ford truck including all distrib, ignition, alternator, sender wiring and boxes/regulators/do dads.
(It all comes out as one nice simple harness).

Imagine taking a one year old, basically brand new 396ss camaro and putting
a Flathead in it and then racing it for the next 30 years....

Held a class record at Bonneville for years with that car.

Set a national record in 1964 for a 12.86 second 1/4 mile with that exact
same engine in a prior body in C/SR.

    That's Clerence.

Gimp...I meant not to use the Ford 300. As for 302 GMC's all u need to do it step up. They are out there in pieces or complete.. The day's of the $50.00 ones are over unless you need a 228 or 248 for the tin work and misc parts since they are all the same on the outside. I started buy 302's and 270 cranks and H heads in the 70's so I have plenty but I also race them and racin' is hurtin' so use them but have enough to last my lifetime. Good Luck.

This way you could enter a Chevy in a Ford show. At least some shows call for Ford powered vehicles .I am thinking about repowering my 55 Ford with a 6cyl 300 + CID from a old round track race car.

I'm another fan of the 300. Had one in my work truck that lasted for 330,000 miles before it overheated. Who knows how long it would have lasted if it hadn't? It wasn't a race car but it would go 85 on the toll road loaded down with all my tool boxes and parts for as long as I asked it to.

    I've done a few 300 inlines:

    '64 Falcon Sprint
    71 Pinto
    '33 Willys
    '48 Anglia
    '49 Anglia
    '30 Roadster Pickup
    (2) '23T altered roadsters

In addition to the aforementioned factory
    7-main blocks
    12 port heads
    SBF bellhousing and transmission compatibility
dual cast factory EFI exhaust manifolds

    you also get
    4 INCH BORES!
V-belt or poly Vee front accessory drives
    available forged steel crankshafts
    available factory fuel injection
    aftermarket hop-up parts availability

Heck, there's even a few factory experimental crossflow heads floating around.
Ferd-in-a-Chebby? A flathead powered '63 split-windowed 'Vette is on my bucket list.
