I am posting this question about a 302 engine I bought as I was trying to find out what year it was made and what it came out of? As it has very little in the way of casting marks on the block and heads. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Contact: txoldrodder@gmail.com
F1 shows it to be 1991, the S is Thunderbird, E is for engine. Same 5.0 block that would be in a Mustang of that vintage. Edit...The F1 doesn't mean it couldn't have been in a 92 and up. But it was no older than 1991.
Yep, your garden-variety 302/5.0 roller cam motor. Pretty much all the same '85-92, after '92 some better cylinder heads started showing up. Pay attention to flywheel/damper balance (don't mix 50 oz and 28 oz parts), and make sure you use a compatible distributor gear if you retain the roller cam. Only real external differences is Ford deleted the clutch linkage boss off the block and the rear sump pan motor blocks are drilled for a oil dipstick, so if you're trying to swap it into a early car with conventional clutch linkage you'll need an aftermarket bracket to pick up the inner linkage pivot.
