So did you go get it yet? 406 head casting C3AE 6090 C are probably worth $300-$400 pr 406's had gold painted Thunderbird valve covers when new Mercury 406 used "Mercury" stamped valve covers.
Had a 406 years ago and it never had cross bolt mains,I thought that was the 427s only. PS I have a chevy in my roadster but I'd junk it for that 406 !....if it IS a 406 that is.
You had better tell us toy are just kidding and have it at home right now ! That was the engine before the 427 ! Great engines and lots of power ! Even if you don't want it you should by it so a real Ford guy can buy it . You can make some quick money with that engine ! RetroJim
s'more info: 406 Head Casting numbers: C2SE-B C2SE-C C3AE-C 406 Block Casting numbers: 1962 C2AE-J, C2AE-K, C2AE-V 62-63 C2AE-BD with crossbolted main caps (late date - rare) 1963 C3AE-D, C3AE-V with cross bolt bosses but no bolts 1963 Mercury used an alternator instead of a generator. The different sized Mercury 406 crank pulley is very rare.

dam when i was in high school i had a 63 galaxie 500 xl convert it was black with a red interior and a white top with a 406 three dueces and a 4 speed dam i wish i had that car now
Don't some of them (maybe all) have solid cams and adjustable rockers. These blocks aren't drilled and don't have the oil plugs in the back of the block due to the cam. Muzz
