With the back cut off, might decrease the value a little. Not much though. Step up the offer and see where it goes. Like said before, he should have some kind off counter though.

The owner must have a number in his head ...what is it ? Whatever he throws at you , you move up, from your original offer , in hundreds ....slowly .

:)Remember when SearsRobuck sold Model T parts ? you could build a whole car from their catalogue,,,:cool:People who owned closed models builded along different lines: they bought ball grip handles for opening doors, window anti-rattlers, and de-luxe flower vases of the cut-gl*** anti-splash type. People with delicate sensibilities garnished their car with a device called the Donna Lee Automobile Disseminator – a porous vase guaranteed, according to Sears, to fill the car with la faint clean odor of lavender’. The gap between open cars and closed cars was not as great then as it is now: for $11.95, Sears Roebuck converted your touring car into a sedan and you went forth renewed. One agreeable quality of the old Fords was that they had no bumpers, and their fenders softened and wilted with the years and permitted the driver to squeeze in and out of tight places.:D

I guess it's a matter of semantics. I agree that the car owner doesn't have to make a counter in this case as they are not technically a "seller" because they didn't advertise the item for sale. We'll change it to "potential seller" and "potential buyer". We have to ***ume a lot as the O/P doesn't elaborate much on the conversation.

The O/P stated; "I offered him $1000, but no go".

This left us all hanging. Everyone is thinking-and then?..................... I'd ***ume he'd have upped the offer by saying "how's $1500"? Or ask for a counter "what would you take for the car"?

Now we know for sure the owner isn't selling because $6000 was quoted (probably why the car is still sitting there). Probably one of these guys that gets off on toying with people that knock on his door wanting to buy the car.

FWIW, $5 would buy the pants I'm wearing.

You know thats a lie to try to getyou to $7000. I hate when people think their car is worth more than any other. I knce told a guy to call the guy that offered him more than it was worth, found out later that my buddy bough it for less than I offered. Ha!

Bide your time and come back later. At $6k it's probably not going anywhere.
