I have pair of car axles, small bearing, 2 1/2" axle offset, 28 spline. Axle long is 30 1/8" outside flange to end of spline. Axle short is 26 1/8" outside flange to end of spline. Ordered a Dogbone gauge but not arrived yet. My housing is 55 3/4" flange to flange with tapered tubes. Currently, when mocked up I have 4 1/2" between the axle spline end s in the housing center. How much do I need to narrow this housing and how much off each side?
axles don't come together in 9" diffs. Look at the spline location in your center section and see how far the axles are supposed to fit in the carrier. My memory is gone but if you look at Strange Eng. or Mark Williams website, I think you will find the number you are looking for.
Thanks wfo. I looked at Marks website just now. Good stuff but not what I seek. Probably should have just asked what housing accepts my size axles?
A buddy just emailed me this; 64-66 Mustang LH 26" 64-66 Mustang RH 30 1/8" Which kinda narrows down my question even more. So what is the width of the housing in a 64 to 66 Mustang? Surely I dont need to jump Forums for somebody here to know!!!
Another off Forum email so I'll post it for future archive help 65-66 Mustang 57.25 inches This measurement is from axle flange to flange. Subtract 5" for bare housing flange length. Going by that info, I'm real close (52.25") to the dimensions of the 1957/59 stock Ford 9" diff which is roughly what I was hoping for. Great work by old friends. Thanks.
