Alright I have a 1963 unibody and I have what I beleive is the tag from the original axle on the truck. I hope someone can help me Im trying to figure out what spline the pinion is whether it's 28 or 31 need help I.d. the tag it reads WDC-CA4 1MG 2.75 9 116A Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I havent taken the rear end apart im having a friend do it but I have to order parts for it but your thinking that's not a gearing for a u nibody that had a 223 in it? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
A 223 6 with 2.75 gears? It wouldn't even be able to get out of its own way, it would be seriously s-l-o-w...
if you can get a few pics of the rearend it might help ID it. The tag may or may not be helpful....could be that someone swapped a later model center section into the original housing, or maybe they swapped the whole rearend. There are subtle visual differences, some guys can spot right away what you have just by looking at it. They're mostly guys who worked in junkyards years ago.... also when buying parts for Ford 9" rearends, it's usually a good idea to get replacement parts that match what you have, rather than trying to get them based on what year/model the rearend is. Although you kinda have to know what years/models used what parts...since modern parts stores are based on computers that go by year/model.
