    Buy it or not?

    BUY IT!

As for reasonable accelleration with decent mileage, I have an older model, with an OT engine that has gotten a best of (absolute best, warmed it up, topped it off, drove to another gas station in another town, both gas stations close to a highway and drove as economically as I could stand) 39 MPG, normal is high 20s in town up to low 30s on the highway.

Gear ratio helps (24" tall rear tires, 3.55 gears, overdrive trans).

    The engine in question?

An OT 4.0L SOHC V6 out of a 2001 Ranger Pickup, with the 5R55E OD auto it came with and all the wirning to make it run.

Yeah, PITA to get it to run, since there was absolutely no aftermarket support for it at the time (since they put that engine in the Mustang I hear there is support for it now).

Kinda heavy, for only being 4L, but it does well in the application.

    Why that engine?

It was physically the largest we could fit in the car without torching the inner fenders out of that funnel shaped engine bay (firewall was set back some when we got it, had a 1969 Es*** V6 in it, when we got it).

P.S. If he has been collecting cans for a long time make sure to go through those before you take it to the recycler, as with alot of things there is a collectors market for those (value being proportional to rarity and condition, just like every thing else collectible).

Have you got it already. Heck put the thing in a shed ,keep it til you are an old fart and sell it. Don't stick no Pinto engine in it. Small block Ford or Chevy. That for $75 is one of those you need a kick in the *** if you don't buy it deals. Believe me ,you are 18, when another deal that sweet comes along you will be an old fart.

  6. The owner is a lot more patient than I am. If I was selling a car for $75 and a potential buyer was ******* around about it as much as you are, it no longer would be for sale to that buyer.

If you have the room, motivation, and you like the car, it's a no brainer, otherwise walk away, lose his number, and let the guy enjoy his can shed.

If you're serious about learning the skills it takes to bring one back then the $75 price on this is insignificant. The skills you learn will be priceless. And they'll stick with you for life if you keep practicing and honing them...

  10. Would you just grow a pair and go get it or tell us where it is and we'll save you from it.

Have you got $75 bucks? If you're alittle short ask your dad, mom, for an advance on your allowance...and go get it before your buddies do.

Now that you posted photos everyone in Rapid City knows were it is...better hurry!

It's been a day since you posted this. If that thing is sitting out in the open and for sale it's probably already gone.. If not a hundred other people now know about it so your talking a very short time and you'll no longer have to worry about it as it will be in the hands of someone who can see a good deal and pounce on it.

There is no way I'd p*** that up for 75 bucks, as stated, you could flip it, part it out, or work on it and hone your skills. Win Win in my opinion. I'd still get another daily driver though as these project's seem to take a lot longer than we first think, but I damn sure would'nt p*** on it.

  18. The $75 is not a problem. A place to work on it is. As is ***embling the tools needed, all I have is a socket set! Should anyone buy it out from under me I will hunt them down and serve their liver at a soup kitchen.

Nobody was born with a tool set, that's what we all started out with. Sounds like you just want to make excuses of why NOT to get it but don't want anyone else having it either. **** or get off the pot !

lose the roof rack, build up a sweet lil' turbo 4 with 5 speed, keep the hubcaps and add trim rings and enjoy the turd!! scrub it with red scotchbrite and dawn and then once a month wipe it down with WD-40.

A late friend of mine built a 59' a couple years ago with the " big Pinto engine" 4 spd and narrowed S-10 rearend. It went like stink was dependable and gets 23-25 MPG on the breezeway. After seeing first hand how tight a 4 Cyl. is in it I'd say a 6 Cyl. without a lot of fab work is out of the question. Oh and by the way, BUY THE DAMN THING ALREADY !

George Montgomery was running tens in a 2 liter Pinto powered Pinto before you were born. My roadster seen on the left went 14.26 with a 2 liter pinto about the time you were being conceived. That was set up for El Mirage where it ran 128 mph the next day with no changes. So don't stick up your nose at Pintos. They will run if you have some idea of what your doing.

And if you don't, just call Esslinger Engineering, you won't even need any Ford parts (kinda the expensive way to go for a "Pinto" motor, but viable if you have the scratch).

Hang a turbo on it and make surprising power, while retaining the potential for fuel economy.

Should anyone buy it out from under you its your fault, not theirs. Cook their liver, with childish comments like that maybe just run down to Wally world and pick up a Big-Wheel and break out the socket set. Come on kid p*** on a deal like you have and you won't find another.
