I'm overhauling the rear end on Dad's '37 Ford pickup. Never been into a banjo before. I marked the axle tubes and the center so I didn't mix anything up or clock it wrong. We have all of the new bearings and gaskets for it. The ring gear looks like it has a little rust on the gear teeth from condensation. Hopefully I can get that cleaned up. Any tips or suggestions on rebuilding these? rear axle 1.jpg rear axle 2.jpg rear axle 3.jpg rear axle 4.jpg rear axle 5.jpg rear axle 6.jpg

    Minimal info I can provide.
I took apart a ‘39 banjo years back. The Ford Barn posted up many pics of hand presses to get the pinion out.
Back when we had Kragens, I eyeballed a 1 or 1.5 ton compact little bottle jack.
Got the pinion out with it.
Ring gear was too pitted to use. Ended up selling the pile and go to plan B. So I never put it together.
The Model A manual I had, did say to keep track of gaskets on each side. That’s how the contact pattern is adjusted. Don’t recall about the pinion.

Those large paper rings are not gaskets, they are shims. After you determine the correct shims to use, they will leak lube no matter how you seal them up.

Don't forget to replace the lip seals at each end of the axle tubes.
