I ran into a problem when installing the drive-shaft. The yoke didn't fit in my trans tunnel because it has that stupid balancer (see pics). I went on evil-bay and found a ton of c4 yokes without that stupid balancer, here I was ready to swap to a Fordomatic. I'm not even sure what year my already installed c4 is. I do know that it's somewheres from '78 to '81 and that it has AOD. It's mated to a '78 200 motor.

    Question is:

Are all c4 yokes pretty much the same for all years? Are they all 36 spline? Can I just not use the AOD on my c4, you know... leave it unhooked? should I just install the Fordomatic?

This is for my 62 Ford Fairlane.

This is thorough as I can I get on this one :(

Aod and a C4 are completely different transmisions Blades. That yolk should just be pretty standard stuff almost all the way through production of the C/4. Just grab one without the balancer. You might try a local driveshaft shop instead of E-bay. This is the trans that came with the engine, right? Wait, it has to be, because an AOD would be a V8 style bell and it won't work with your engine. Is what you are referring to as AOD really the kick down cable? Sorry for the questions dude, but I think this is your first time in this stuff and it can get confusing real quick...

I think it is the kick down as my gear selector is already hooked up. Trans shop is a great idea! Thanks

  5. In my experience with making and shortening driveshafts is that the c4, aod, and borg warner are all the same spline count and the OD is also the same.

Take a hammer and knock that ring off. It doesn't balance the drive shaft, its for harmonics. Knocked mine off years ago, no vibration.

All C4 tail shaft are 28 spline. You just need one without the balancer on it.

That driveshaft is set too deep into that transmission, see the coloration of the old markings on the shaft, it needs to be out there. One good bump and you will snap the yoke the shaft or the uni"s. You may have snapped your speedo gear pushing it in that deep. Sorry I couldn't stop by. I have pneumonia. Lots of pretty blue pills to keep me breathing. Yippie.

  10. Pay attention to what Francisco said. If that driveshaft is run with the yoke pushed in that far, you are going to break some expensive stuff!

Shit. I might have taken that picture before I attached it to the rear end. Great! Now I'm up in arms!

Well, I'm glad. You see... when something might be wrong with anything... my OCD kicks in and I lose sleep.
I just had to investigate if it was really in that deep.
You be the judge. Good or no?

    Good looking out men!
