Hot Rods Ford & Chevy guys, do you have a favorite car from the opposing camp?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Dec 6, 2020.

  1. Most of us have a preference or brand loyalty to a certain make & model, me being primarily a Ford guy I have a long history with the mark and I am sure many of my GM contemporaries are also long time members of the bow tie brigade.

The 1932 Fords have been a favorite of mine for many years and the obsession started when I was 12 years old,

I have owned many on topic blue oval ca rs & trucks over the years and have owned a few GM cars in the past but nothing HAMB friendly, but ever since I was a kid I have always been attracted to the ' 55 Chevys,

Is there one car from the other line up (Hamb friendly please) that has made a impression on you and if the right deal was to come along you would add one to your stable? HRP

Ford trucks and Chevy cars. Been that way my whole life. No reason just worked out that way.
The only other car would be a Cadillac. I've had 3 of those.

  3. I'm also a Ford man altho my dad had mopars in the "50s and a LaSalle.I'd would love a'58 chevy Impala

I'm more geared toward GM, but I would love to have a hopped up 55 T bird someday.

I grew up a Chevy guy, but now all those ugly Ford’s and Mopars now look sweet. Mainly talking about 50’s and earlier stuff.
Heck, right now I have 3 older trucks, Chevy Ford and Dodge. Guess I’m tri-sexahichel

  6. Hard-core Ford guy here, but I've always liked the '61 Chevys. Not as over-the-top as the earlier cars, and not as 'angular' as the later ones. The 'swoopiest' of all the late '50s/early '60s Chevs (excluding the 'Vette of course...) IMO...

I am curious if there is some mental process in our brain that controls this?
When I was 13 years old, I mowed lawns and delivered news papers for money.
I ended up with a first car at 13 years old, 1957 cornet with a hemi. Bought it from a newspaper client.
Today I like all cars, I have a ot cheby with a sbc/5spd.
My favorite is old dodges. Was my first car, even though I never actually drove it.

HRP first car was a Ford, even though he never actually drove it.
I just wonder if there is a connection mentally with our first car?

    I love them all.

  9. Ford guy thru and thru here. If the right opportunity came along, a 55 Chevy could find a home at my place. I think they're one of the best looking cars ever built.

I'm not sure how that would be handled by my fellow car guys. I rag on the Chevy guys all the time about their poor choices, car wise. :)

Over the years I have transitioned from a Chevy guy to a car guy. I have favorites from Buick, Packard, Ford, Plymouth, etc. Cars I used to laugh at when I was a teenager I now drool over.

Always been a chevy guy, but for some reason I prefer the 57 Ford to the 57 chevy, and I would pick a 33 or 34 Ford over almost anything else.

Always drive GM, Chevys, GMC, a couple Pontiacs and an Olds. My hot rods are Chevy powered Deuces, but I have always liked the ‘57 Ford Custom 300 series 2dr. sedan.

A fun part for me,is acting like I'm the other brand from who ever is doing the most BS about his being the only good brand. Putting some digs too add to the BS ,,LOL
Those that know me for more then a few weeks, know I like all brands! Have worked on all.
If I had to pick my fav."I say Studebaker. Raced many more Chevy powered race cars then any other,,but towed them to the race track with a Ford station wagon>so I would at least get there !!! LOL
I run around town with buddy's powered by a number of makes.
They are all nuts and bolt's.

Funny you ask this. All my "special interest" cars have been Fords. For years, decades even, I lusted for a 32 Ford Vicky. Finally, after years buying, selling/swapping, cutting, welding, bleeding - - - you know the drill - - - I now have one. It's great, too, I'd drive it anywhere. And, except for the 6 speed and newer seats, HAMB friendly. Guess what? Saw a 37 Chevy coupe, wicked 302 Jimmy, 4 speed - - SUCKED ME RIGHT IN!! No, I don't have it, but it doesn't get far from my mind. Almost feels like I'm cheating.

I've never really been a Chevy or Studebaker guy............but you can see what I have:) I had to use restraint recently to NOT go look at a 61 Dodge Dart two door hardtop, stick with a long ram engine that was local. Dad had Dodges, the first car I wrecked was a 58 Dodge, but.........I'd go for a Thunderbolt (I had a 63 Fairlane) or early 60's two door post big block fourspeed MoPar would be great.

On a second thought, as I was just thinking about makes and engines: I like clean looking V8s with their distributor in the back, so I have had lots of Chevys, quite a few Nailheads and also a Y Block in my 34, I also like inline 6s, the 300 in my F100 was a great engine and I love the 235 in my 55 Chevy and think it would be fun to replace it by a hopped up 300 Ford six maybe someday. Maybe I used to be a Chevy guy because I learned to work on them, but now my real problem is, I love pretty much all old cars, even the odd ones I wouldn´t have touched with a stick 15 years ago...

  21. As I've got older I've come to appreciate all different kinds of makes. I'm not as biased as I was in my younger days.

Ive always been a chevy man. Grew up workin on them and always liked them. I have a 55 chevy that im in the middle of restoring rite now but just recently found myself buyin a 63 thunderbird for the wife. I like driving it more than she does. First ford ive ever had. The good thing about hot rods though is there is no right or wrong way to build them or no right or wrong brand to start with. As i get older i start to love them all! If they were all the same kind of cars, car shows and cruise ins would really blow!

Ford guy through and through, but wouldn't turn down a free 37-41 Chevy, or a 55-58 Chevy, or a 64 Impala or a early Chevy II. Might even put a Ford motor in one of them so it could be driven, too!:p

Been a Chevy guy all my life, but I like Fords, too....'57 Fords are cool, especially the convertible hard top model
which my parents had. Only crossed over to the Mopar camp once in my life. My sister's boyfriend got tired of
me ragging on his '63 Plymouth Fury, 383" 4 speed, heater / radio delete Golden Commando new car, so he took
me for the ride of my life. Kept my mouth shut after that, which was in '63 and I can still feel the thrill of
him power shifting through the gears...woweee!

Always been an Ford guy since my first car in 1966, a '31 Model A. I continued the tradition with a '65 Falcon 2 dr. wagon in HS. But then the draft and life got in the way and I grew up and had other non Ford family cars. I did try to return to the Ford family with an OT 6.0 diesel Ford but since that experience no more new Fords. Ever. I currently have my '39 p/u and a '54 Ranch Wagon but a '67 Chevy Nova with a 327 and a 4 speed or a shiney red super stock Dodge from Pasadena would certainly temp me to stray.

I too am a Ford guy...Ford engines and pre-war Ford bodies...BUT, like @chucka says, there is just something about '37/'38 Chevy coupes that "floats my boat". Especially in a semi-gasser/gasser format.

I consider the '57 Ford a beautiful car...the eyebrows on the headlights, the trim, the canted fins, just so damn beautiful. And when you go to a show or cruise night there will be dozens of '57 Chevrolets, there are only one, maybe two, '57 Fords.
Conversely, the '58 Chevy is just a piece of art and gorgeous from any angle. From the phony scoop on the rear of the roof to the dual headlights, just sweet. Now the '58 Ford was just well, unattractive from all angles. The hood was its only redeeming value.

Most of the stable is Mercs and Mustangs although there is a certain 427 4speed pro streeted 55 Belair that's been in there since 1995 and its not going anywhere. But truth be known I have owned variations of most makes over the last 50 years and if money and space allowed a lot of them would be represented too!;) Larry
