Technical Ford column drop ID please. UPDATE who would have thought!!

  1. What year car or truck ? This one is pressed steel , not the thick cast type with internal cylinder and little chrome ON-OFF handle. Ignition key would go in the serated hole on the right. The open U shaped top section would be for the three on the tree shaft.

    Not a pre war Ford or pre 1948 these states column drop......looks like a later 50's/60's foreign job.....
     
  4. Found it. Did a image search for the British Ford Pilot but that has the same drop and key lock setup as the U.S.A. Ford. Even the French Matford has the U.S.A. style drop and key lock system. Then i tried Mercury and found two 1947/48 Mercury Convertibles with the same part as mine. As i also have the matching steering column and box which i thought was Ford my next question is are the Ford and Mercury steering boxes the same for that year ?

    Cool - it was the sheet metal look it had - most early Ford's are a larger cast piece.
