Hello all, I just started my first build over this past summer, before I found this awesome forum, So I figured I'd start a thread of my progress. I already posted a thread in the "noob forum" asking questions about where to start and now I have a pretty good idea of where to begin. I got this car over the summer for, GET THIS, $Free.00. It was on my uncle's property under a car cover. When his job forced him to move to NC, he couldn't bring it with him, so, while I was helping him load up the moving truck, I asked about what would become of the car, and he said it was free for the taking. So I got this very custom ford roadster for the price of a rollback tow to my house. Being that I am an Engineering student at VCU, not only do I not have alot of spare money, but also, I'm pretty short on spare time also. So I can only work on it a little at a time, but I figured I'd start a build thread and gradually add to it as the roadster slowly comes together. Thanks to everyone who helped answer some of my questions, as I am very new to this. :):):)

Awesome car man... I enjoy the unique look of the rear... there is something eerily familiar about the lines of the body... like I've seen it in a picture before?

Ask your uncle about it's history... I'm sure we all would love to know!

Reminds me of that Jag powered roadster in the Survivor issue of Hot Rod couple years back. Nice score. Glad you are saving it!

Im allmost sure thats the same car someone posted pics of earlier in the year, Ive been searching for the last few mins trying to find the right combo of words in the serach feature, they were trying to get off someones property. The flathead, the grill, the boattail looking rear end. Hmmm

Consider that one to be quite unique as nobody out there will have anything like it.
It would be cool to find out who built it. It reminds me of an eary sports rod.
Keep the pics coming. Great start!

Whoa dude....something is familar about this car.

I'm checking some books later and hope for the best.

Meanwhile nice score and a really cool car.

That book is what I used to rebuild the flatty in the blue truck.

    More pics.

  17. The use of the term "build" has become annoying to me. You are not "building" this car, you are restoring and resurrecting it. And it is a neat old piece of history that deseerves as much.

  18. Awesome find.
I have just been looking at the pictures, and as you said that you are new to this 'sickness' I would point out a few items for you if I may.
The grill surround is a cut down 1931 Model A (identifiable by the recessed area at the top). The speedo is from a 1942-46 ford.
Have fun and try to get it inside!

The pedals are 1954 ford SWING pedals

front end looks like a 36.

    frame is 32...I believe.

Thanks for all your help guys, I am a sophomore in college and am VERY new to this. Just looking for places to start. My brother and I are currently tryng to de-rust and prime as much of the sheet metal as possible. In the meantime, I really wanna get this flathead running, It has the offy-three deuce intake which only works with 97's. But as a college student, spare money hard to come by, so I'm trying to get carbs one at a time, cause strombergs are expensive. haha.

    its a cool little car...

you only need 1 carb to get it running, keep the end 2 carb mounts blocked off until you get it running then add the other 2.

Might be and old PISTON MANGLERS C.C. car.

Has an East coast, racey vibe to it.

The rear almost looks like an old heating oil tank.

Welcome to the HAMB, thanks for posting the photos, now you need to deside what to do with this find. Looks like it is on a 1932 Ford chassis, major find right there. Do you plan to save the body or replace it with something else? It is unique, but personally I'd put a Ford body on the chassis and go frome there.

Hey DRuss. Yeah, people have been really helpful. And I haven't been able to find drums yet but I stopped looking cause I'm not sure where I wanna go as far as bolt patterns and such so I'm giving it a little break to work on getting all of my engine parts together. And I read in a book I got about flatheads that 94's wouldnt work on the 3-deuce offy intake, is this wrong? cause I'd much rather start off with cheaper carbs just to see if I can get it running and then upgrade them later. Thanks ahead of time and thanks all for your compliments and comments :)

It will run on one carb, and I'll bet a HAMB member has a stock manifold for cheap that would allow you to get it running quickly and for little money.

That would be awesome, I've been checking the classified posts, looks like they run about $40-50. Now just gotta save up, haha. unless someone wants to trade one for some fenders or gauge clusters?! haha.
