Hi all, Hope I've posted in the right place... Sorry if this is a simple question but I've exhausted every google search possible trying to get an answer. I have a Ford F-100 1965 with a 240CI The inlet manifold is cracked where it meets the engine and the exhaust manifold is leaking from somewhere. I have been trying to track down a replacement inlet and so far the only 2 I can find which are direct replacements are: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ofy-6019dp http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ofy-6227c The big question is will any other combos of inlet and exhaust manifold from a different size engine fit on mine? Here's a few photos of mine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Rob
Hi. Love those sixes. I cannot help with the interchangeable intakes but if your only problem is with the broken bolt tabs on the cast iron manifold those can be brazed together & refilled smooth. I have done that in the past. What I would suggest is to pull both manifolds, braze & file the broken tabs & reinstall with new gaskets & donut at the flange to the exhaust header pipe & see if this takes care of everything. Not only is it the cheap way out, it lets you get back to driving while you can do the inevitable many small things that will be needed to get your ride running & looking good. You might so a degrease of the engine & take a rattle can of engine paint while the manifolds are off and make that old 6 look almost new. Those broken tabs often are caused by tightening with either a bad gasket or not clean contact surfaces so insert some rags in the head inlet & outlets with manifolds off and scrape & wire wheel the heck out of everything AND check everything with a straight edge before reassembly. My Chevy 6 is shown in my avatar & am just beginning with a complete new wire look & that will really clean up the look under the hood. If you need more info or other help post a message on the HAMB message board. Where are you located? As you closed with Cheers it sounds like you may be a long way from Texas. Good luck, Jimmie
Hey Jimmie, Thanks for the quick and detailed response! I'm in London, so yes pretty far from Texas! I don't have a brazer but could get some nickel rods for the arc welder and give it a go. Do you have any knowledge or advice when welding with nickel rods? I'm gonna try and pull the manifolds off today so I'll let you know how I get on. Nice Chevy bay. What do you mean by giving it a new wire look? You're wire wheeling the whole engine? What does your Chevy 6 look like? Thanks again, Rob
Hi. Just going to replace the complete wiring harness in the car, front to back. My thoughts on the look under the hood is the current wiring on mine is just messy and carelessly done and it is still the original 1946 cloth covered wires which are dangerous when wet. To braze you just need a brass rod and some proper flux and a oxygen/acetlelene rig and hand weld. If all you have is an electric welder they do make rods for cast iron but I have not used them myself. I have both a Lincoln elect welder & a small set of oxy/acety bottles in my workshop I am by no means a pro when welding. If you post a how to question on the regular HAMB message board about brazing you should get some comments on that from more experienced than me. Or do a google search for brazing or welding cast iron. Jimmie
