FNG here. I need a Ford 8" rear unit with 3.55 gears. Does anyone know what year/model might have 3.55's as a regular production item? Maybe save me much crawling around under wrecks in the junkyards.:(

    Thanks.

Well I'm learning a lot about posting, that's for sure!

The story is I have an 8" axle installed with new 3.55 aftermarket (Motive) gears that is still a little noisy after much adjustment. Now I am looking for a used third member with a factory gear in a ratio close to 3.55 (3.40 or 3.50). That's why I would like to know what year/model would likely have what I need. I don't need the complete rear axle. Sorry for the confusion.

you might consider changing your posts title to look less like it belongs in the classifieds... most of us will ignore missplaced posts.

About the only stock application for 3.55 gears might be found in an early Rancharo. Most 8" rears I've seen were either 2.77 or 3.00.

I have an early 8" (1962) with a 3.50 gear in it. most of the early cars only had a 3.00 or a 3.50 I think?

  5. The only thing I've ever found 3.55's in is a 74-78 Mustang II with a v8 motor.
they are a 4 lug 8 inch so you have to look under it still to be sure.

    I got a five lug 8" 3.55 rear out of a late 60's Mustang.

  7. If you're not really concerned about having a perfectly vintage car, get an 8.8 out of a pre-90-something 4wd Explorer. It's drums w/ leafs & The tag is idiot-proof - it actually says what's inside & they're cheap & available

I have a set of 3.50 gears. Also a friend has an 8 inch with 3.25s in his rod.
I could use a five bolt 8 inch for my rod.
