I have a 61 Ford Falcon. I'm in the process of replacing the brakes. I purched a brake kit new wheel cylinder, brake shoes, drums and hardware. Question: The orginal brake did not use pins to hold down the brakes. Its a square piece of metal the fits behind the backing plate that has a square that comes out front. Not sure how to attach the new brake hold downs.
Ford used both nails and springs and that style throughout the years. You’ll find what you need at a good auto parts store. Get a manual so you know the correct way as someone else you know has been in there given the time and age and it might not be as it should.
Right.. but a good parts store should be able to get the square hardware. Newest I saw with that style was about a 1995 E350…. A fender washer will also work. It’s just gotta hold shoes in
Replaced many with nails and a washer , correct spring . If you were near I weld up the hole and redrill it for you .
I used the hardware kit for a 1966-67 dodge valiant for my 1960 falcon. It had proper springs and retainer. I'm not sure why the spring and hardware kit sold by all the auto parts store chains are incorrect. Yet another make and models kit includes the proper pieces.
