im looking to bye a 63 ford falcon it has a strate 6 in it but how easy would it be to put a 302ci v8 in it? also is there any good web sites for falcon parts ect?
The 63 1/2 Falcon sprints came with 6 and 8's,,,,so did some of the futura's,,,, The plan Jane falcons didn't come from the factory with V8's,,,at least I have never seen one,,, Try this site,,,HRP http://www.falconparts.com/
try http://tffn.net/ a falcon message board/website. everything you need to know. i will be honest my '63 ranchero is a factory V8 car and the motor fits but it is very tight! i say find a 200ci motor and drive the hell out of it. but here's another that may have what you need... http://californiamustang.com/
the 6 cars had 4 lug wheels, small brakes, the steering will be in the way for the 8. the 6 steering pitman arm and the idler arm are 3/4 of inch higher than the 8. you will need V8 motor mount pads, the crossmember is not the same as a 6. there are alot of suppliers for falcon parts and a few web sites for them also. You will be able to find the parts you need easily enough. Granada front suspension parts will fit brakes and such, also the rear end assy. will fit the falcon with narrow wheels. makes a great little car for sure.
Pretty much the same as converting an early Mustang. There was a guy at Cleveland on the '07 Power Tour that had an early 60s Ranchero with a Boss 302 in it!
289 fit my 60 falcon fine I ran 64 Comet or Falcon V8 mounts. I ran the stock 6 cylinder front end even kept 4 lig 13" front tires with a 9" rear out of a 57 fairlane. I used the 4 speed and clutch from a 64 Falcon.
I know this is an old thread but I just found it. I put a 302/C4/9" in my '62 with no problems. Go to www.falconparts.com for info (click on "tech") and parts. The 6 cylinder springs are fine now that I installed new ones. I also put in a 3 row radiator, Granada spindles and disc brakes along with '63 control arms, '65 steering linkage and a Mustang II master cylinder with a GM brass proportioning valve. This make for a real nice, fun to drive car! I also used Hedman headers that fit great. The only thing I'd like to do is change to a power brake setup if I can find a booster to fit.
