No FE 302's,it was just the seller's story. My friend didn't listen the bull ****, he just looked at what was for sale.
I really have to say there are way to many answers that are not correct ! The Y block was only in 4 different versions for the Ford and Merc ONLY ! There was NEVER a 302 Y block or a FE ! The guy doesn't know what he is talking about at all ! The 302 is part of the Windsor family and non other ! It also was not a truck engine either .
Educate the ignorant, and I'm sure learning stuff from this thread - and I sold a few parts for 'em back in the days as a Ford Parts counterguy/manager. Ford Big Job trucks could've had a 302 engine in them, back in the mid/late 50s, don't know exactly when they were phased out but likely in the early 60s when the FE based truck engines replaced 'em (330 medium & heavy duty, 361, 391). If memory serves, the old truck 302s were based on the lincoln style V8s, and not the Ford 239-312 Yblock version. Here's an interesting article on 'em: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1950-1959-ford-trucks7.htm
Well I am sorry for the incorrect answer about the 302 ! I have found out what this was all about . In 1956 you could get a "302" for the larger F series trucks . They were called "The Torque King" and was based on a Lincoln engine ! It had 179 Hp and 270 Fpt . These were offered on the C-750 , B-750 , F-750 and the T-700 series trucks . It was very short lived ! Sorry to all for the wrong information that many of use thought also !
The Ford 401, 477, and 534 motors were the "SD" Family, which means "Super Duty" These came in the BIG ford trucks like the F800 and FT850's, dumptrucks and flatbeds from 58-81. They were known for making lots of torque at low RPMs and medium horsepower levels respectively. Anyhow, this thread has become a ******* contest over what means what and all that. The question at hand was answered...there was no "FE" series 302ci motor made by Ford. FACT.
Sorry guys Ill agree with Texas ********,FE is Ford Edsel.Maybe someone from the FE forum can put us all straight

Saw 'em in firetrucks and T-series dumptrucks, and saw a few as stationary powerplants at small sawmills and dairy farms in northern Michigan back in the 60s and 70s. They were the gasoline engines in the old "H" Series (known by many as "double decker Falcons") COE over the road Fords, along with an early ***mins diesel. Link to the H Series Ford OTR tractors: http://www.michellesfords.com/H_SeriesTrucks.html As correctly stated prior, the 302 truck engines are NOT FEs. Smallest FE based engine I remember is the 330 medium duty truck engine, I learned to tell them apart from the others because they had smaller diameter crankshaft (took smaller front seal, same as the car FE engines), which differentiated them from the 330 HD and 361/391s. There were other differences too, but this seemed most signficant method to tell them apart. And FEs is FEs, who cares what it means? A rose by any other name. . . .
