hey i just bought a 75 ford with a mercury engine in it. im assuming the engine is not the original. the dealer said he that it was a 360. i think his guess is correct but i still am not sure. how can i tell what engine it is by the serial numbers?or apperance?

The 360 is a truck engine never used in passenger cars. The bore is the same as a 390, but the stroke is 3.5 instead of 3.78. Mostly, the engines appear the same on the outside.

After rereading your post, I guess I presume you have a truck, since no FE motors were used in cars after '70 or so. A Mercury motor is probably a 390, but 30-odd years later, it is anybody's guess.

Suffice to say that most FEs look pretty much the same, and you'll probably have to look inside to positively confirm what you have.

    Any numbers on the intake?

    Look for example-
    Doae-9425-a

I ust made that up, but it may help you look for this type of number.

yes, its a 75 f-250. how could i measure the stroke depth?
did ford put merc engines in their trucks? cause this is not the first time ive seen a merc in a ford. by the way, it has a 2 bbl carb on it. the truck is my first vehicle, and its beautiful. i think it has a race cam in it, it has dual exaust and headers, . its pretty quick for an f series.
