No baffles. I have a set of early Cal Custom covers on my SBF in my 48 tudor and the lack of baffles causes oil everywhere ha
I was never sure , but the one I purchased had a sidewinder painted blue . I do know I also 429 SCJ it had an iron intake , I always wondered why 428 had aluminum and 429 iron . Now I understand . I’d love to have 57 or 58 with an FE and a sidewinder sittin on it . That’s for the info . Fun facts to know .
Shelby sold a sluminum intake that , from what I understand , is identical to a Sidewinder. I have one on my 58 Fairlane 500. The Shelby logo is under the front of the carb and the FoMoCo logo that is almost worn off on the RH side. It also has the firing order on it, which seems odd for an aftermarket intake.
Are you planning to run an electric or mech fuel pump? If you use an electric pump then the pump mount opening could be used for a fill/breather. Obviously, some fab work to get a tube to run up to a useable height and not get in the way of other stuff but it would put the breather (air intake) in a good location.
It will have an electric pump. That is definitely something to look into. I also have a junk set of 289 valve covers I could cut the breathers off an add to the early FE covers. Internal baffle and I'm golden.
They are one of the best overlooked early style engines . Driven like an adult and maintained there are many high HP trouble free miles .
I've never been known for driving like an adult much but I'm hoping the firestone bias ply lack of traction will help with that!
