Do Ford Flathead COILS have any value? Can you look at one and tell if it is good or bad? Can they be rebuilt, do they have value as cores? Will have some at Hershey.

Yes, they can be rebuilt by Skip Haney (I'm assuming others) in either 6V or 12V. As far as value, it all depends which coil you have, but they are all considered cores at this point. Common ones, not worth more than $5-10 bucks if all the nuts are present. Some of early ones are rarer and worth a little more.

Check out the upper portion of the coil…..the domed part. If you see any cracks whatsoever, that particular coil is toast and has no core value. Sometimes the cracks are very hard to see and won’t be apparent until the coil has been well cleaned. The inner guts are always removed and discarded as part of the rebuild process so don’t worry about what is inside. Coil cores that (at least appear to be okay, generally only bring between $5 and $10 value to a rebuilder in my experience.

Unless it’s a Lincoln, then it’s worth keeping even if it’s got a crack. Lincolns are unusual with their dual humps up top.
