Does any one out there have a Ford Flathead generator with a oiler cap like this? Also what kind of oil do you use to lube it? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
We used to just put a few drops of 30 weight in those back when they were common when we lubed the car.
I've done the dribble of fresh oil off the dipstick thing after changing oil too. It doesn't take a lot of oil at one time just remembering to do it on a regular basis.
At the other end, you have a roller bearing...several types used over the years, you have a fairly late generator with a single row bearing. For reliability you want to know what you have up there...disassembly is easy, just keep track of the stack of washers and stuff. Clean the thing, replace it if it seems loose or has wear grooves, and thoroughly stuff it with good wheelbearing grease. Repeat every twenty or thirty years, you have to stay right on top of these things... Once well greased, it will last pretty much forever if belts are not overtightened...the big type belts are run fairly loose.
