I have an 8ba in a '29 Model A. Right water pump was leaking so I bought a kit and was going the rebuild it. After I got it apart I find that it has the bushing in it rather than the long bearing. The kits that I have are those with the bearing. I thought that they were truck pumps. They have tabs that stick out horizontally for the motor mounts. They are not Merc pumps. It has narrow belts but I figure that does not mean anything since the pulleys could have been swapped. They look like the pumps on my '49 F-1. Now here are the questions. What do I have???? Is this pump worth fixing since it has the bushing rather than the bearing? My idea at the moment is to find another pump with the bearing to rebuild. When identifying a pump, is the oiling hole the clue whether it has bushing or bearing? I thought all truck pumps have the bearing. I would have bought a rebuilt pump in the beginning of all this but the style that I thought I had only came with the wide belt. Neal
How far is middle of belt sheave from front machined face of block?? How far up is bottom of mounting leg from lowest bolt on block?? If it has mounting legs like early Ford, the only possibilities are '37-48 passenger, '48-52 truck, or 50-51 Merc as far as I know...but Ford is always full of surprises. The above dimensions will give some clues to origin.
