Goin to pick up a '50 with an 8BA this weekend. The cars probably rusted to **** since its been in sand for 10+ yrs. Which also means the bottom end might be ****ped out if the pans gone. I'd like go ahead and start rebuilding it, but not sure where to get parts at a good price. I've looked at Patrick's website, but thats about it. TIA Dennis
I'm sure it is. The guy selling it really knows nothing about cars. He didn't even know what year the car was I had to describe the grill to him over the phone. I hope the 8BA hadnt been pulled somehow for a 21 stud long ago or some **** like that after driving 2 hrs to meet him.
I'm in Grand Prairie. I30 and 360 to be exact. I remember you saying you were over by the Parks mall. I plan on bringing my bare block over to Metal Rehab in Ft. Worth to have it Caustic Soda tanked. it's $125 out the door and the block is cleaned up to look like a shiney quarter. Also, they will get every last speck of casting sand out of it. I'm then going to bring the block to Bailey's machine shop on I 30 just E of Down town Dallas. He does work on Model A 4 cyl flathead motors, as well as V8 60s and V8s. There is a place in Texas called "The Pit Stop" If you plan on needing some local stuff for the motor, you can probably talk to them. We also have "Antique Auto Supply" right here in Arlington. Very cool shop with Ford stock stuff. You need quite a bit of time to check around that place. Well, good luck on that block. I hope you are not paying a lot of money for a stuck block. You may just have a boat anchor if the motor is a real mess.
Elrod - Thanks for all the names of some places! esp since they're all local. I've talked to Stacy Brown at Antique Auto about my Stovebolt, but never thought to ask about parts for flatties. What was I thinking? Yea, I know what you're saying... I don't think you can look at all the stuff he was there even if you spent all day there. Dennis
btw Elrod - Whats your daily driver? I'm in Grand Praire all the time. wonder if I've ever seen you cruisin
My daily driver is a new altima, so I'm not that noticable. <-- I do drive a Model A coupe around on weekends.
Reds Headers, Speedway and Macs all carry a bunch of flatty stuff. I buy mostly from Reds as multiple shipping long distances can add up fast.
I would say Reds as that gets you a vendor who has anything you could possibly need and can actually answer your tech questions. If price is only consideration, for an 8BA checkout Northern Auto parts--they supply kits and have good prices and mostly namebrand parts, as much of what you need is still available from mainline sources. You'll still need Red's for some of the stuff modern places have never heard of. Get the heads off and do at least a preliminary check of top of block before getting too excited yet--sometimes the road is hard...
