Well I have had my original 1930 Chevy coupe for sale on the HAMB for about three weeks and have not had any interest at all. So I am going to pull the original drive train and drop in a rebuilt 283 with a turbo 350, maverick rear. I cant say I have taken a real close look at the ch***is yet, but a quick look-see makes me think I want to try to use the rear leaf springs and get rid of the front leave springs. I was thinking about putting in a Model-A Ford type front cossmember and using a Ford dropped axle with split wishbones. I think I have all the parts I need to do that switch. I dont have to "re-invent the wheel" here so I am asking if some HAMBer has previous experience with this plan, be it good or bad. The plan for me would be to get it running with a late model engine and trans, put on some inexpensive hot rod tires and wheels, leave it full fendered as shown, wire it up and try to sell it as a "driver". Any ideas or advice on the front axle change would be appreciatted.
I think it would be a mistake. The orginal frame is marginal for V8 power and the wooden body structure is a serious problem. Sell it for what it is. If you had no interest, guess what, your price is too high.
I agree. Your time is worth money and before you know it you would be balls deep and get the same money for it.. I'd hold on to it until the market gets better or lower your price....
Definitely a 30! I think I will heed the advice that several have offered and just lower the price, keep my Ford parts, and move on to somethng else! Thanks!
Corndog, You can put a 50's Chevy truck axle underneath and it will drop the front a couple inches... You wouldn't consider a '70 Nova in trade would you???
