In the process of buying a 1969 F-600 for farm use...seller says he thinks the engine is a 330. Now I don't know jack about fords...what "family" is this engine in? Looks like a 390 to me..also has some neat center dump header-like manifolds on it. Anyone know what this engine may be, what horsepower, what will interchange if the need arises? My reason for asking, I've got a good running '66 with a 352 I was going to sell, but if the engine will fit, I'm going to hold off until I see how this '69 runs. Or I might just put a Nailhead in it! Thanks..... Brian
The 330 is of the 352 390 familey. it has a short stroke and a steel crank. also a cam for pulling. The 352 or 390 engine will bolt in place but you will have to use the 330 flywheel. good luck...
We just did a motor swap from a 330 to a 390. We have a C 600 The 330 is a very low reving engine makes a hell of alot of torque The best thing we did was put the 390 in its place, however we had to use the 330 intake, heads, distributor and governer there are several other diffrences crank snout for one..Hills that I used to shift into 2nd, now I pull in third. If you just replace the 330 with a 390 the truck should fall of its face out of the hole..Thats what i have been told and ours is working great. Hope this helps
Another swap with less bother is a 361 or 391, both are FT series truck motors like the 330 and you dont need to swap stuff. Cam timing is different between FE car/pickup and FT big trucks also. I dropped a 391 in place of a 332 in a 58 F800 and it made a huge difference.
No report on the 330, but I can report that my 390/C6 propelled me and my sister right up over the bar ditch, which we almost totally cleared the barbed-wire fence of the cattle pasture when I was trying to teach her to drive. I was in my first vehicle I ever owned, a 76 F100. Its a pro at gathering dust in my 49 F1 now.
Thanks for the help, I knew it looked very similiar to a 390. Brought the truck home this morning...now I've got another damn project! I wonder if the world is ready for a flamed log truck?????!! I'd better not post pictures...it's not traditional...it has RADIALS on it! Brian
