    ...well...in a Merc...just put 302 and AOD in the 54 merc...dropped right in ...fabbing mount for trans tonight...does anyone know what headers might fit with the stock steering box...clearanced the stock manifolds but still on the steering box...

    JeffB....the guy who runs the 52-56 Ford Social Group here on the HAMB, knows a ton about this swap. Give him a shout.

I put a 302 and an FMX in My 54 Merc and used Factory Mustang fox body(87-93) tubular headers, they fit very well, I had to make one tiny indentation with a ball pean right near the steering box, they are cheap, easy to find,flow well and clear everything even with engine movement under acceleration.

    i put a 302 in my 53 ford also used the fox body headers..you can get them super cheap...and the have a nice ball/cup collector ..no leaks...

    I used a rear dump manifold (early mustang) in my '41 ford. understand some ford trucks had rear dumps.
    before that I made my own from 2 identical manifolds. cut one between #6-#7(gave me 1/2 of the manifold), one between #5-#6(gave me the other half + #8) and welded thenm together. then cut off #8 and plugged it. worked for 10 yrs until I found a rear dump.
