Hello, Trying to figure all the differences between Model A beltlines 1928-1931. The 1928,29 looks fairly easy(none) but the 1930 (wide and fat?) and 1931 (skinny like a 32?) confuse me. Trying to learn these cars to start a project I inherited from my grandfather.
28/29 is the same. 30/31 is the same, unless you throw in the briggs built 28/29 4 door that looks like 30/31 with a pinched cowl.
At 200MPH what does it matter......................................? Doc. PS, Yeah, the other guys are spot on. Mmmmmmmmmm 30 Roadster on pinched 32 rails, 32 grille, blown Nailhead, QC and Tony Nancy interior!!
PS!! There is another MAJOR difference between 28-29 As!! The 28s didn't have a bolt tyeing together the outside top and bottom bumper tips together, the 29s had one. Doc.
here is the belt line on a 28-9 Wide and flat Doors fit outside the body here is the belt line on a 30-31 large roll (high) small roll (low) with another roll low on the coupes doors flush front, outside body fit rear
The seat legs in your picture indicate that this was a Tudor body (as the grey one in the picture posted above by Von Rigg Fink). Coupe bodies did not have bucket style seats and use a different platform type of mounting support. A date stamped on the firewall is for sure the best way nail that down - if there's nothing still there, I think about the only thing that might nail things down closer, from what you have, would be if there's a hole in the left subframe where the emergency brake handle was on the early 1928's.
