I know this is stupid to say or admit but the other day while working on my wifes 55 ford fairlane The new brakes I put in failed while driving up the drive way...well I could not stop the car and was about to hit the house. Used manual brake (did not adjust them yet) turned of the engine and was still rolling twards my house so I had to make a choice. (fix the house and car or spare the house and fix the car!) well I put the shifter into park and now I can not get it out!! I dropped the pan and checked inside and found no metal shavings or pieces. There was a pin that was stuck foward so I was able to push it back...well it is still stuck! I can move the tires but not the drive shaft. I can crank the motor by hand but in the trany I see nothing wedged? does anyone have any ideas or a diagram I can use to verify all the linkage? Oh and I did disconnect the linkage from the shifter to the trany and still can not move the outside linkage from the trany by hand?

I know this is an old post and did not put an update....well once we opened it up ...there is a little ball bearing on the shifter that holds it in place when you select a gear....that ball bearing jumped and wedged itself....took it apard and works great!!!! thanks for the page
