Anyone know of a USA made solenoid for Ford. Just stuck a China unit while bumping eng to set points. Then it stuck. 3x cranks later sticks, pulled battery cable. Geeze...

The old one on fender was stuck as well. Read lots if reviews, junk out of the box.

These used to be bullet proof when made in USA.

Not likely. It is difficult to automate production when only service part quan***ies are involved. That means hand ***embly which means you favorite low cost Asian country as the manufacturing center. If you could talk someone at Ford into ordering a few million solenoids a year for production quan***ies, I guarantee production would move back to the States pretty quick....

I shop in the old vehicle store :D As in I grab all the old coils, condensers and whatnot from all the old vehicles I come across. Most still work just fine, just need to get your head around the fact that new is no longer better or any good at all these days :(

The old Standard Ignition ones were good. The new one I got from Napa ****ped the bed on me too soon.

I save up old ones that are working. I carry 2 in the trunk of my Ford, in case someone needs one when I'm out and about.

Low voltage or high resistance in the cable will cause a solenoid to stick, it welds or melts the contacts together. If you have the same thing happening with multiple switches that could be your problem.

I used to pirate them from s**** cars when I was towing junk cars around 1978. They always worked.

Which one are you looking for a 6v or 12v? I’m going to be rummaging through the side garage cleaning and I should have some NOS ones in there.

I would walk into the local FORD store parts dept and see if they still offer one. You might be surprised at what they still service. In my world Ford has always been the best about having parts available years later.

So apparently, almost all the new electronic components are junk. Including the Ford solenoids.
    Bummer.
But I sure appreciate the discussion about the useless ****. It'll likely save some of the rest of us time and effort and grief. Prompts me to adjust my parts-gathering strategy.

Here you go. Good ol' reliable USA-made solenoid-free multi-voltage starter technology. So priced accordingly. )

Recondition the old one by drilling out the rivets and flipping the contacts (or cleaning them).

Also, make sure your battery is fully charged, as low batteries can cause the solenoid to stick.

Everything I've gotten in the last few has been Mexican Echlin from Napa. And I haven't had noteworthy problems with any of. Think I got some Standard for a couple old bikes, no probs there, either. I hope that isn't changing too soon........or already.

Gotten to where I consider the Mexican parts as North American like Canada And USA So I hope the Mexican manufacturers can hold out against other global for a while.

No, fresh cables, fresh battery, starter tested excellent. China = Junk. There is no comparison to OE USA quality. 56 Chevy ignition switches fail in 2-3 starts as well. Buddy sent free original 1956 take out, starts like a million bucks. Warned my buddy on his 62 Corvette, ign switch failed before it got out of garage. He found an original NOS, problem solved.

  22. I firmly believe that most auto parts today are made by one or two factories in whatever country. Every auto parts company has their own boxes. Typically I buy the cheapest version of whatever Rock Auto offers. The only exception to this that I have found is Motorcraft Brand parts. I’m sure someone is making them for the Ford Motor Company, but Motorcraft quality seems to be better than other brands.

One if the tow trucks I drove has a Manley 3 pole electric boom on it. The motor on that had 2 heavy duty Ford-ish solenoids on it. They weren't always easy to find in a pinch.

So we carried used ones in the glove box. If one of the HD ones died, a used one got us hone with a junk car on the hook.

At one time as late as the early 2000’s Echlin made all of Fords ignition and electrical parts. Whenever I pulled a part for a Ford almost always it was a Ford script OEM part. Since I’ve retired there is no telling where the stuff is being made or who makes it

NOS USA solenoids on ebay. Ordered 2x different brands. 460 Channelocks will be backup plan. I'm thinking of installing a battery disconnect for safety reasons.

If a ford starter solenoid sticks open hit it with a screw driver or on a pinch your fist. I've had my fill with Chinese **** my daily driver T'bird has been giving me fits for a few weeks now the duraspark stator **** the bed was 4 years old in a Davis rebuilt distributor put a new standard in timing all over the place bought a nos borg-warner off ebay not any better so I'm done with duraspark and in the process of installing a stand alone distributor everything is Chinese **** anyway I'll just keep a spare stator in the glove box.
