Folks, My Hot Rod has a T5 out of a 92 Mustang (according to the tag) with a gear driven VSS. Does someone make an adapter to use an “old style” speedometer cable that screws onto the trans gear and speedometer head?
Maybe Rusty @e1956v at Speedometer Service in Colorado can provide some info. Speedometer, Generator And Alternator Repair In Colorado Springs (speedoservice.com)
Is yours like the one on the left? Gear drive that is converted into elec. pulse? should just be able to switch out to mechanical bullet with cable end. The one on the right is for T5s that have a steel reluctor ring and magnetic pickup.
Rock Auto shows 92 Mustang speed sensors here. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,1992,mustang,5.0l+v8,1134043,electrical,speed+sensor,10634 Most have a cable drive and a impulse drive for cruise control. I bought one for the T5 in my 62 Rambler that has a T5. Mustang speedo cable to fit the sensor and get speedo shop to put correct speedometer connector on the other end. Get the correct length cable. The Mustang one fit my Rambler
I can make up a speedometer cable that fits the Ford VSS or I stock the 7/8-18 threaded adapter that takes the Ford speedometer driven gear to replace the VSS if you don’t need it to run fuel injection or something else. PM me or hit the link to the website in my signature. Give me a length for your cable and I can provide the works.
