Hey Jody have you heard any plans for the 50th.Any proposed events. Is FORD going to do anything.I would think they would make it extra special due to the fact that we are losing so much living history.

    Dave,
Is this the '62 you are speaking of? Found this 1962 Nationals photo of Super Stocks on another website. I cropped the photo down to show just the Bob Ford car as it was in line to run.

Wow.........I am blown away. That is the 1962 Bob Ford car I prepared and drove during the 1962 season. I did not know a picture of this car existed. Thsi car came after Jack Gray's '61 401HP, and before the '63 lightweight fastback. This car, like big sam, was yellow and black.

Unfortunately, the only people who went to Indy were Paul harvey and myself, so I was the driver, crew chief and crew. In those days, we used Jahn's cast aluminum pistons, fitted at something in excess of .010" side clearence. By Indy, I guess one of them got too small, and during time trials, the car developed a noticable knock just off idle. I stayed up all night and tore the engine down at Jerry Alderman Ford, finding nothing worn or broken, I reassembled it replacing only the gaskets, oil and filter. I finished just before dawn, went to Paul Harvey's house and took a shower, changed clothes and off we went to the races. The no-sleep deal really took it's toll, and I was very late off the starting line against Hayden Proffit's 409 Chevrolet, who as I remember went on to win the class. Counting the Detroit Dragway incedent, that was twice in two weeks I lost to a 409 Chev because of not enough or in-experienced pit crew. I had this problem untill my late brother-in-law Bub Martin joined the team in 1963. Dave Lyall

I was bored at work today and did a few image searches and ran across a few nice Thunderbolt pics. The sky in the first one is amazing.

    Troublemaker:

Here is a picture I ran accross taken in front of Bob Ford in 1964. In the picture are the Len Richter Tunderbolt and the "63 Lightweight Len drove in '63, which was driven by Jerry Harvey in '64. The Len Richter T-Bolt became the Ken Vogt T-Bolt in '65, and the Paul Moody-Billy Williams T-Bolt in '66, and then other owners before being rescued and restored back to it's original state when driven by Richter. The '63 lightweight has also been restored back to it's '63 appearence.

The Bob Ford building shown in the picture was torn down (except for a small piece in the S/E corner) and replaced by a modern all-glass showroom on the west end of the property around 1968. It is know as Fairlane Ford today. Dave Lyall

Actually this car only brought $38,000. The $41,800 is with the buyers 10% fee added on to the selling price. Divide the posted price by 1.1 to get the actual selling price. Checking the details of the car, you will see it did not have an FE but a 557 inch big block. Also had a Powerglide trans.

Another re-creation went for $62,000. It had a FE stroked to 454 that was backed up by a 5-speed. The car was painted the same color as the Tasca Ford T-Bolt.

Steve Ramsey ran the white Fairlane in the 422 All-Star Races for two seasons and brought out the tribute Fairlane too a few races to show. Sold his '69 Cobra Jet Mustang also at Barrett-Jackson on Saturday for 55,000 after fee's. His truck and trailer that hauled all three, sold that there also.

That's what I'm talking about! Any ideas who's car that first one is? It looks like "427" flags high and up front on the fender above the fiberglass bumper.

No. The remains of one was around for many years, however it dissapeared when the car went though one of its stages of restoration.

Only ten cars orignally ever had them.

I believe that is Les Ritchey's car. It was up in that area for a while. But after looking at the roll bar hoop it could also of been Ronda's. However, the more I think about it I think it is Ronda's car. One the fiberglass front bumper staying with it and two I recall that it was for sale in National Drugster and that is where Glidden found out about it. Both cars were in the NW area later on.
