Does anyone know the length of a Ford top-loader 4 speed, long tailshaft version? Measuring from the bellhousing/front of gear case to the end of the tailshaft housing?

I'm looking at one that measures about 24" from the front of gear case to the end of the tailshaft housing; the guy claims is the long version, but I don't know anything about these older Ford gear boxes.

    Thanks,******6.

My source (an old Petersen book "Engine Swapping" from about 1981) indicates that there are variations of the Ford T&C transmissions, but that they are all about 24 inches long. I note that the applications listed are all cars; maybe the ones used in trucks or vans are different? Not exactly an authoritative source, but it should give you a start........

By the way, the three speeds are listed with the same length...

That sounds short to Me. From memory Im thinkin from the pad on the bottom of the tailshaft a short one is about 4 to 6 inches to the end. A long shaft is about 12 inches.
The short versions came in Mustangs-Cougars-Fairlanes. The long ones came in Galaxies full size Mercs and Torinos. Hope this helps.--FEDER
