I was looking at some of my parts I received when I got my'56 Meteor years ago. It came with the automatic as well as a standard ******. Well the standard has a cover on the top that is held on by a number of bolts. I googled images and it is a Ford top loader. I then went ebaying and saw some at seemed awfully out of whack. Are these trannies that desirable and valuable or are the eBay prices just people thinking any old junk is made out of gold?

If it is a 3spd, it has very little value. If it is a 4spd., values depend on multiple factors. It should have a metal tag riveted on the side of it with some letters and numbers on it like RUG-L, etc. Get the codes and then google which ****** you have.

Will do. It has three linkage rods attached to it which I've been told indicates four speed. T/F?

Rummaging a little closer it looks to be a 3 speed after all. Too bad but I will get the ID off the case. Somebody might want/need it. Will update when practical.

Check David Kee transmissions online. It has charts that might help you identify it.
