  1. Got my side shift 30 years ago by accident thought it was a toploader 4 speed , friend was wrecking a vehicle and gave it to me .
Used it in my 64 pick up with a 292 , what a surprise shifting into 4th the first time . Used it for awhile and pulled it ..

I looked for about a year for my iron case SMOD. I ended giving $250 for it. Rebuild kit with counter shaft, bearings, synchros, Gaskets, etc was $125. So all in all a good deal, I went from 12mpg to 18 in my mild 352 FE.

OKAY, I realise this is an old thread but I have an urgent question re the T170F RTS
Are the shifters interchaneable between a 2x4 and a 4x4 T179F? I assume the external angle of the shifter may be different but is the internal shift ball and selector rod the same? I've tracked down a 4x4 box with no shifter and a 2x4 shifter... please email directly to michael.stumpf@bigpond.com

I have a Ford full syncro 3 speed with overdrive in my avatar roadster. It was an option in 75-77 AMC Pacers, Gremlins. and Hornets. The overdrive is a Laycock,, now Gearvendors unit. I run it behind a warmed over 354 hemi without any problems since 2009. I installed a Jeep T150 top cover and shifter on it to look oldtime in my roadster. I mounted a lighted switch under my dash to control the overdrive. I just drove it about 150 miles today and it did just like it was supposed to. The reason I added the lighted switch was to remind me NOT to take off in O/D or back up in 0/D. Things could get ugly real quick by doing that. They are rare to find but worth the effort.

I believe the only difference in 2 and 4 wheel drive RTS is the tail shaft and housing. Shift cover should be the same.
