the windshield in my 29 coupe is about 7 inches and at times it ****s to drive. like when your the first car to stop at the light. but like dreadman said its not a hot rod if its comfy.

    metric chops rule!!!
Everybody would ask me: Whats Millimeter??? :D

The cardboard was a 4inch chop. But I think it will be hard to get into the car, since the 5inch higher floor...

So I am trying to find the best compromise between "Look" and "Comfortable"!!!

And I think it was already asked but I didn't see an answer, what is that steering box from?

YEP welds are looking very good.
Gas makes it so much better.
The photo chop looks good but that window in the garage looks jacked!!:D
I would go 4 inch chop.
Just watch the lead inthe pillars.

Kevin: I am still doing my day job ;)
but I have a job at night now too :D
Would be cool, if we all would be able to drive this summer!!!
We could make a Central VA Cruise!!!

Pete: I really appreciate the gas, but I figured, I sould have got the bigger bottle :D
Think I should go with the 4 inches...

The lead is only on the top section of the pillars, so where I cut them it should be solid...

    Today was the big day:
    We started the chop!!!

First we had some trouble with the drivers door, because it was bent.
But we were able to fix it, so we could start marking and cutting!!!!

WOW, thanks for all your nice words!!!

Wicked Tin: I'll place a 425 Olds Starfire in there... unfortunately can't afford a HEMI
But I hope, the Olds will also move me :D

Paul + Dave: Stop thinking about everything else, go to work on you cars!!!
I have to keep on working as long as the first enthusiasm is there...
I'm afraid, after the first problems, there won't be so much motivation any more :(

I think the post (nearby) about ****py welds was (****) I've been doing good strong welds for 50 years that don't look any better than that. The penetration looks good. Just don't get so finiky that you grind them off to please ***holes that can weld better but don't have any manners. Grinding welds off to make them look good is a mistake/gringing weakens them. Your project looks good.

29nash: no, I am not grinding these welds... nobody will see them, but they have to be strong!!!

Here is an Update of todays work:

placed the strip of sheet metal in the roof. thank you, you fabulous clamps :D
    [IMG]

    then welded the a-pillars together:

    and the whole roof:

So this is, how it looks now:

It's not as perfect, as I wanted it to be, but who cares on the first build...

    I like this stand:

It will be 4" lower in the front (dropped axle) and maybe 2" in the back.
Than it will look perfect :D

Teaser: (Steering wheel and shift knob)

    What do you guys think???

It looks great, but as tall as you sit, it is also a good thing that the seat stands have enough height that you can adjust the seat down a little......although it might just be a perspective issue from the pics. Very neat project, keep us advised as it continues.

Build looks great! Let me know if you can find someplace that has windshield frames. That is about a 36 isn't it? I wish my build was goin that fast. But good help and beer and then nothing gets done just talkin about the build. Keep it up!

    Thanks guys!!!

AnimalAin: I can adjust the seat height a little by sliding it back and forward.
Thanks to this angle of the seat risers. And I have 3 holes in 1" distance, so I have a small adjustment.

Pete: My help, unfortunately, is not here any more. He went back to Austria today.
The first thing I have to buy now is a cherry picker :D

Arch: I still have the original windshield frame, but it is not in good shape...
So I might come up with that later...

    There is one more thing:
I am reading here on the HAMB about useing LEAD on the cab all the time.
But I know they use TIN in Europe and also in Austria where I come from.
I mean it's two different materials, but is it possible, that there is something in common?? Everybody says that lead is harmful to your health...
So maybe tin would be a good alternative!!!

    But please, educate me:)
