OK, so I finally managed to score a tailgate for my unibody, and after rebuilding the bottom 3 inches of it it's finally on the truck.
Seems to me that the body gap is a bit much, but I don't see a better way to fit it. Also, I don't have the rods that only let it go down to 90, I'm going to try and make some out of cable, not sure how well it will fit in the pocket.

Show your fit and your opening solutions please. I'll get some pics of mine up ASAP.

Maybe you can do a retracting cable? with a spring on the end inside the stake pocket?

I have 3 or 4 tailgats but not happy with even the best one. I need to either put some time in my best one or just be happy without a tailgate I guess

I just used some garage door cable and made cables so that I can at least let it down and use it now. Bodywork on the truck is horrible, so it looks OK not fitting, but I do plan to work it over and paint it in the somewhat near future.
took some pics. will upload them when im not being quite so damned lazy

Made my own tailgate, hinged at the bottom like stock and used "bear jaw" latches on either side. Both are actuated by shifter cables and an aluminum pull handle in the license recess.

Here's mine. Its a Carpenter re-pop. Had to add about an inch to one side edge to even the gap, also the center section oil-canned pretty bad. I paid $350.00 for it but had probably $500.00 more in fixing it. Should have fixed the original one (which I still have).

Here's mine finally. Got some cables made using garage door cable, took just under 5 foot of cable, amazed how much length!
The side to side gap is liveable, but would like to get it ****ed in closer at the bottom, just dont see how.
Also, are you guys running any sort of bushing in your bottom pivot area? Thinking of making some derlin or br*** bushing/shim to take the play out of the bottom.
