Ford V8-60 Questions

    Howza All-

    So last Summer I was helping a neighbor with her Grandfather's Estate.

    There were many treasures I found and it was well worth every humid, mosquito ****ing day we were there. Toward the end of the excursion into the unknown, I discovered a V8-60 that had been stored in an old shed that probably has not seen the light of day since the mid 50's.
    Water tight and just awaiting to be dragged off.

    So, here it is!

    I would like to know a bit about the casting numbers on these engines. I beleive that it was probably a welder engine or a irrigation pump engine. On the heads is cast FOLB, it is a full cast block, has a aluminum intake, a letter E cast on the bellhousing, cast iron heads and the 81 Stroberg has been replaced with a Ford 94(bummer). It turns freely and the oil is dirty with no signs of the "milkshake" affect caused by crack or a head trouble.

    So, what do I have here??

  3. Spooky- there's a few really good posts on V8-60's if you search. Congrats on the find! They're neat engines and some great applications like an early sprint car. There was a Austin/Bantam that had one in a magazine recently.

    I was possibly going to leave it as is internally, paint it up, dress is up with acorn nuts etc..

    Sure the 94 isn't a 92?? What does it say on the left side of bowl?

    BTW while we are on the subject, anyone have a spare 81 or a pair of 92's??

    Tin side blocks were '37 up to mid '39.

    The V8 60 was made from 1937-1940. The 1937 was made with tin sided water jackets from the beginning of 37 til April of 37. Anything after that was a solid cast block. The 1940's were different in that they had bigger journals, bigger bearings and a bigger crankshaft.

    In Europe and elsewhere, 1935-6 until...what...early '60's?
    Someone on the Ford Barn has written a BOOK on 60's recently. I thought I had his site bookmarked, but cannot find it.

    Nice find, Do some fun of it. like my son's Ford Y (England) its a 60hp from -38 with oilpan , Stromberg 22,2 and box from France Vedette

    Just under $60 shipped. It was worth it to me as I didn't know much about them. Also Richard (the author) is helpful and willing to answer questions, etc.

    I have hear this 60 hp its made to 1972!!? In syd America ? Right? If so why so hard to find parts? Here in Sweden its lot of this V8 and I think same in europe but its made in France not same like USA modell Oilpan its made in Aluminium and same with cylinderheads and have not same distrbutor. Some its on 85 hp here if I remember rigth.
    Did find a HAMB members engine and so looks France V8 dont know if this its. Wonder how its looks in 1970s car

    I think the problem is that the late engines were made in places unknown to the few Americans interested, and by the time old Ford people found out they existed they were obsolete and largely gone from France and Brazil.
    Monkeybiker (UK) has what I think is maybe a Matford one...somebody on Fordbarn had a couple Brazilian OHV ones...but the late ones seem to be vanishingly scarce in their home countries.
    Loong ago I saw one of the ridiculously rare British/French '35-6 blocks in a French junkyard...it was so damn different that I had trouble believing my own eyes. A 60 from another planet, but still obviously a 60...
