As a kid watching local Stock Car races everyone ran wide Five Ford wheels, later I noticed them on restored cars. Many Hot Rods use them today. I picked up a bunch of related parts last week, this NOS drum was the first I've ever seen. Was it a press on or did the studs and lug nuts do double duty? Were the lug nuts a bit larger than normal and Five Wide only?
Ford built a few different versions of hub and drums from 36 to 39. Some were 2 piece, with and without ribs on the drum. They were crimped at the lug studs. Once you cut a relief at the studs, the knock right out and the separates with ease. Also. the p***enger drums fit the floater truck hubs that were used in circle track.
Pretty sure the two piece had the drum on the back and hub outside. Wheel studs held them together. I’ve seen the same hubs used with aluminum finned drums that had their centers cut out.
Heres the Wide 5 to Buick, the Buick is cut out to register on the Wide 5 hub Then the stud is pressed thru the drum into the Wide 5 hub, here the studs are just located in place and the fixture to use it in the press is resting on top.
I have a pair of wide 5 hubs that would probably work with that drum, they look like the Gold ones above ^^ interesting. I have often wondered about putting drums on them
