My new swap meet score is a Y block marine intake manifold with 2 carter YH sidedraft carbs. I found some info on the carbs and some on the manifold on a google search. It seems I'll have to build a water crossover/outlet which doesn't seem too big a project. Anyone have a picture of this on an engine or experience with them. They were on the "Interceptor" marine engines-292 312 Ford Y block. I picked up a running 292 2bbl engine for the next project and this looks like a pretty cool induction set-up.

    Any info or help appreciated.

I'm trying to learn the differences in Lincoln Y blocks and Fford Y blocks? CID's are different but are the intakes and such different.
    Thanks.

From what I know, the Lincoln and Ford y-block share only the distributer and oil pump. Intakes are side by side on a Lincoln, top and bottom on a y-block. The ports are what I'm talking about. I have some Lincoln stuff if interested. Mike.

  4. They're similar in name only. Take a look at how the injectors feed into the intake ports on the Lincoln Y-block.

And, then compare to the "stacked" intake ports on the Ford/Merc. Y-block.

Thanks, Goober!! That's the picture and info I was after. It will be in an open engine compartment. It's in real nice shape-carbs work freely and look pretty good. The linkage is there and works smoothly and the manifold is in great shape. I saw that the thermostat housings were the other half of the bolt hold down for the intake, but if I can't find them I think I can make something similar. I'm off to pick up my Y block tonite at 5PM. Then the next warm day I'll visit the local junkyard to look for some truck manifolds.

Zimm, is that yours? Is that store bought or home made? That would even work better with the aircleaner idea that I have in my head. The forward mount would give more room. The water doesn't care where it goes, as long as it goes without too much restriction.

That set of heads didn't have water jacket plugs-those holes are drilled and tapped directly into the water jacket. That plug on the left hand head (Right in picture) fills a mistake. I guessed wrong on where I could get into the water jacket without screwing something else up and got into an oil return passage. Had to sleeve it and plug the outside. Engine runs cool with only 3/4 pipe outlets (1" hose to the thermostat/fill housing.
